We played some tennis at our park today, went to Lowes for some supplies, then did some yard work.

I replanted the 2nd section of grass seed that didn't take well the first time. Scraped more rocks out of the way, put down some top soil and compost and spread it out. Then I re- seeded and then put down these pellets that are biodegradable mulch/fertilizer that is supposed to swell up with water and keep the seeds moist and safely in their place so they don't get washed away.

I think it's going to work this time.

Husband spent some time splitting wood in the yard and spraying termite bug spray like crazy when he found the critters hanging out in the pile. I'm thinking that's not good for the environment and probably not going to be good when we BURN the wood in the winter, but we don't want those suckers snacking on our house.

I also got some stakes for my tomato plants and tied them up. I think I still need 3 more, but this is much better than it was.

I ate my first topsy turvey tomato the other day! It was a small one, but ripe and tasty. Hooray!

Tomorrow I need to remember to dig up the shrub in my Mom's front yard that she wants to give me. I found one at lowes today and it was in bloom and really pretty. It was a pink Myrtle I think. Here is a link that looks like what she's got. Dang - I didn't know they got that big! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagerstroemia

I know just where to put it.

***UPDATE***

It's July 12th and I think this product I put down over my grass seed is FANTASTIC.

Today is a hot July afternoon, my outside thermometer says 86*. Last night it thuderstormed and rained like crazy. About an hour ago at around 2pm, I went outside and stooped down to see if I needed to water the new seed. The mulch/fertilizer was still damp from the rain last night!! WOW! Also, I really tore up that first round of seed I put down when I raked out more rocks and roughed up the ground again to lay down my second  try at the seed. The first round was really patchy and didn't take well. A couple of days after I put down my second round of seed with this fertilizer/mulch stuff on top of it, that first fringe of grass perked right back up and looked really good considering I raked the heck out of it just 2 days before. I can't wait to see my new lawn in another week!

Where did you get the pellets that you put over the seed? What are they called if you don't mind me asking? I'm having a devil of a time getting my gradd to grow too. Thank you.

No problem. Here is the exact product I used. http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=11511-68859-2396084&lpage=none
I picked it up at my local store and it was the same price as they have it online. I'll definitely let you know how it works out for me, I put it down yesterday.
